Interested in having surgery?
If you or someone you know are interested in having low-cost to no- cost Clitoral Restoration Surgery, please contact Jennifer Mbithuka at jenmbithuka@gmail.com. Jennifer will schedule a medical evaluation, and those who are deemed good surgical candidates will be scheduled for surgery during our yearly surgical camp in Nairobi, Kenya.

Pre-operative Evaluation and Counseling
Preoperative medical and physical evaluation is performed by our team of Ob/Gyns, Plastic Surgeons, and Anesthesiologists. Risks and benefits of the surgery are thoroughly discussed and consent for surgery is obtained.

Post-Operative Care Kits Given
Post-operative care kits are given to patients to aid in healing and recovery from surgery. This kits includes hand mirrors, ointment, perineal spray bottle, and vibrating device that helps bring back blood flow and stimulate nerve endings on the vulva.

Anesthesia
Spinal anesthesia is given to patients who undergo surgery to numb their bodies from the waist down. Patients are awake during surgery to allow them to communicate questions or concerns with us while their surgery is being performed. This also allows for quick recovery time and discharge home same day.

Post-Operative Follow-up and Recovery
Patients are seen about 1 week after surgery to ensure they are healing well. Sutures will dissolve on their own in 6-8 weeks. During this time patients are instructed to abstain from intercourse, check incisions regularly, and clean the area with soapy water and pat dry.

Clitoral Restoration Surgery is Performed
Patients undergo Clitoral Restoration Surgery which typically takes less than an hour. Every surgery is tailored to the type of Female Genital Cutting that was previously performed, with the goal to improve sensation to the vulva, and if applicable, enable more comfortable vaginal penetration.

Long Term Followup
We keep in touch with patients long term via a postoperative WhatsApp group, through which they can communicate questions or concerns with the surgical team directly throughout the year. We also welcome patients to come visit us the year after their surgery to let us know how they are doing.
