Dr. Angela Deane is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Obstetrician, Gynecologist and Minimally Invasive Surgeon at North York General Hospital. She has a special expertise in caring for those affected by female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) and is working to improve medical care through education and multidisciplinary collaboration within the Canadian healthcare system. She has worked internationally performing reconstructive surgery for those who have experienced the most severe forms of FGM/C.
“ Meeting and caring for those impacted by FGM/C has been the most impactful experience of my career, it is incredibly rewarding to offer such a transformative surgery as a part of one’s healing journey. My hope is that this surgery will no longer be needed one day, that the practice of FGM/C will end, we must continue to work together and empower the communities at the centre to end this practice."
